In Loving Memory of
Kenneth William Butterworth
Kenneth William Butterworth August 9 1925 - October 26 2018
Ken came to call Santa Monica home in 2012 towards the end of a long and productive life. Born in Sydney, he trained as an engineer and served in the Australian Navy. His successful business career took him to bases in the Netherlands and Paris, from which he travelled widely managing Loctite Corporation’s European operations. He was later transferred to Hartford CT as Loctite’s CEO and eventual Chairman, leading the company to Fortune 500 status. The Hartford Courant named him Business Leader of the Year in 1991.
Ken was a keen sailor and kept yachts on two continents, so he could don his skipper’s cap and docksiders wherever he travelled.
Ken and his first wife Raby had three children, Jan, Shelley and Derek. He married Margreth in 1979, then Patricia and Kristin. He found great happiness when reunited with Margreth in 2011, and they grew to love living in Santa Monica and the community they found here.
Community was important to Ken as he dealt bravely with the challenges of aging and living with dementia. He and Margreth found aid, pleasure and respite in his weekly sessions with Music Mends Minds, and the good folk they met there. Click here to hear us in action!
Ken also leaves his step-daughter Alexandra, nine grandchildren, five great grandchildren...and Charley the black Yorkiepoo, who is now providing much furry comfort to Margreth.
